For the leader of a senior leadership team, feeling he or she has to be strong is often a long held belief. Not only is this tough on the leader in question, but it is also tough on the whole team, because they feel that have no permission to show any sign of “weakness”or doubt. With everyone trying to be strong, especially in these testing times, there are many conversations which are impossible. Taken to extremes, this can be dangerous. High performing teams know how to voice and be receptive to each others’ and their collective vulnerability: there is a high level of trust and an understanding that it will improve their resilience and the quality of their relationships, dialogue and decision making.
