A visionary is blessed with the ability to create ideas that could change processes, thoughts that could have a transformative effect and solutions that could break repetitive problems.

In terms of business, having someone who is a visionary is a valuable asset – they can see a realistic, credible and attractive vision of the future for the organisation that grows out of and improves upon the present.

A visionary leader has all these but takes action as well – they turn these thoughts in to physical acts and sets about change for the greater good. They are able to articulate this easily to others – through words and actions.

These leaders bring their vision in to the world, through a series of achievable goals. Their people see this strategy and method brought about alignment and intention.

And they rely on their people for help. This requires the building of strong, firm relationships with those whom surround them. These empowering relationships are spurred on through core values, clear vision and innovative action.

Of course, you can only successfully inspire people when you feel inspired yourself. A visionary leader is excited about the future, and this optimism influences those people that surround them. This alone can be very powerful, as this power of influence spreads throughout the company – and everyone becomes excited about building an exciting future for themselves and the organisation. Often the vision is so powerful that it causes everyone to rise up and spend their lives in pursuit of it. These leaders are the architects of the organisation’s future.

This takes imagination, insight, and boldness, and where there are potential risks involved, the visionary leader will display courage to lead the way and show others. The vision which is exemplified by the leader must be all consuming to bring out the best in people even in the most challenging times.

Visionary leaders are summed up by the famous Gandhi quotation, “I must first be the change I want to see in my world.”

They cannot and will not achieve anything, unless they fully manifest the changes within themselves. They need to be a walking, talking example of the positive, empowering message they are giving out. This is the strongest, most powerful way of inspiring people to come on board with their vision.
